The Alumni Initiative was born out of a desire to provide children with better education and a safer environment. The Founders, Leandra Garcia & Cierra Adkins, both alumni of Gesu School, a private Catholic school that provided us with an exceptional education and a sense of community, began to see the disparities in the education system as we grew older and started families of our own.
We noticed that public schools often did not have the same level of resources, funding, or care for their students as private schools. We also started to see news reports of more and more violence in schools. We understand that not every parent can afford to send their child to a private school, but we believe that every child deserved access to a quality education in a safe environment.
That's how the idea for The Alumni Initiative was born. Cierra and I wanted to give back to our community and make a difference in the lives of children. We envisioned a nonprofit organization that would provide Scholarships to students to go to a private/Catholic school as well as resources and support for students.
The Alumni Initiative eventually aims to provide a resource hub where students can come virtually for academic assistance, mentorship, and other support. We hope to empower students to reach their full potential and give them the tools they need to succeed in school and beyond. Through our work, we hope to make a positive impact on the lives of children in the community and beyond.
